When Do Babies Sit Up?
Baby Developmental Milestones: Sitting
Sitting is one of the most important developmental milestones in a child’s life, as it gives him a new vantage point of the world and allows him to be more independent.
But, when does sitting actually happen and how? Read on the full article.
Between 3 and 4 months, baby’s neck muscles will build up strong very quickly to help him hold his head and lift it up when placed on his tummy. Soon after, his shoulder muscles will get strong too, giving him the ability to support his body’s weight and lift his chest up.
By month 6, the baby will be able to sit well, with head and back straight and will learn how to maintain his balance and use his hands to stay upright while seated. Yet, he won’t be able to stay in the sitting position for a long time and will need to be supported by pillows.
When the baby is 7 months old, he will start to sit upright without using his hands or pillows. At this point, he will learn how to move his body while seated, and it won’t be long before he develops his capacity to move from a lying position to a sitting position, using his tiny hands.
So if you want to encourage your little munchkin to develop his sitting milestone, let him have some supervised tummy time. Try to play with him in a swimming pool and put him on a safe mat to play around and explore his surroundings. If you tried these tips and found out that none of them is helping your child who still can’t sit on his own by 9 months old, we advise you to talk to the doctor about it.
